Computing and the new curriculum

With Computing being the new ICT (in the new curriculum at least!) schools across the country are embracing the use of Scratch – a free programming tool created by MIT – to teach the building blocks of computer science. From primary to secondary, Scratch is a great place to start and can also develop into a complex computing tool, when you get to grips with it. The fact that it is lots of fun is a big bonus! You can share the games you make with other users online and embed them into your Fronter rooms to share with your school community too.

To get started with Scratch download our Scratch Ready-to-Go room made by one of our Fronter Champion Schools – Walthamstow School for Girls.

The room contains all you need to get started and by adding all the pupils as members when it is downloaded, you will have a whole host of games to share in no time! Pupils pick up the skills so quickly they will amaze everyone – and they can have a go at recreating one of the 7 million (and counting) projects already hosted on the community pages.

The room is suitable for Key Stages 2 and 3, so ideal for primary and secondary schools alike. You can find out more about Scratch for Educators here.
